Copyright & DMCA
Last updated: October 28, 2026
Stream is a place for writers to write their own work. Nothing on Stream is published: there are no public pages and no public profiles, and every project is private to its owner and the people they have invited into it. Anything in a project was put there by the project’s members, who are responsible for holding the rights to it.
If you believe material shared through Stream infringes your copyright, tell us and we will act on it.
The quickest route
An email to stream@upperstate.tv reaches us directly. You do not need a Stream account, and you do not need to write a formal legal notice for us to look into something.
A formal DMCA notice
If you would rather send a notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §512), send it to our designated agent below, and include all of the following:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed.
- Identification of the material on Stream you are asking us to remove, with enough detail for us to find it — for example, the name of the project and the document, and a link to it if you have one.
- Your address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act for them.

Copyright Agent

The designated agent of Upperstate, Inc., which operates Stream, is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. Notices sent to any other address may take longer to reach us.
What happens next
- We aim to acknowledge a notice within two business days.
- Where a notice is valid, we remove or disable access to the material promptly, and tell the person who added it what was removed and why.
- We keep a record of every notice. Accounts that are the subject of repeated valid notices may be terminated — see our terms.
If you think we removed something wrongly
If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to the same address. It should identify the material and where it was, state under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake, and give your name, address, telephone number, and consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or, if you are outside the United States, any district in which we may be found). We will pass a valid counter-notice on to whoever filed the original notice.
Knowingly false reports
Under §512(f), anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing — or that it was removed by mistake — can be liable for damages. Please only report work you genuinely believe is yours or your client's.
